Evolution vs. Creation

                             Understanding Biblical Truth

Evolution vs. Creation

So, what is the origin of life?  Today, we are confronted with two major doctrines to explain the formation of life.   The first is accepted in the secular world and the scientific community as the Theory of Evolution.  The second is the cornerstone of many religious entities, as the foundation of their faith, known as Creationism.  Are there any similarities to these two concepts?  Are there any differences between them?

Let us start with the similarities between the two doctrines.  First, both belief systems came about before human existence, so there exists no human testimony that can verify that the events occurred as proposed, or that they even occurred.  Therefore, there are no human witnesses; for belief in either doctrine, there must exist some level of faith that the believed doctrine is true.

So, what is faith?  Faith is defined as complete trust in someone or something.  Faith is established by physical experience or by the acceptance that an idea is true, even when it is not reproducible by humans.  Since prior to the existence of life, there was no conscious human intellect, there cannot exist physical testimony of life’s origins.  In other words, there was no human being alive to witness the origins of life.  This means that at some level, both the theory of Evolution and Creationism are based on faith.

Next, we find that both belief systems came about similarly.  Since the Universe does exist, and humans do exist in it, we can infer that something occurred that caused the Universe and humans to exist.  Remember, the Universe, and everything in it, exists as matter.  The definition of Matter is “anything that has weight and occupies space”.  So, if all that exists in the Universe is a form of matter, then before the existence of the Universe, there only existed empty space.  Both Evolution and Creationism agree that the origin of life came about from a state of nothingness, a place where no form of matter, or even time, had existed before.

Here is where the belief systems begin to differ.  In Evolution, we begin with a primordial dot.  This tiny dot, the size of a pinhead, was the only thing that existed.  Somehow, an unknown force caused this dot to excite, heat up, and this eventually caused the dot to separate by explosion.  From this dot developed all the elements that led to the formation of life.  This is evolutionary theory is known in the scientific world as the “Big Bang Theory”.  Of course, this is an incredibly simplistic explanation of this theory, and I invite you to further study this concept so you can form your own opinion on its significance.

What are some of the factors that evolutionists have failed to explain?  Well, the first and most obvious problem is, where did the primordial dot come from?  Remember that both belief systems are based on the notion of nothing.  Evolution begins with empty space, devoid of matter.  The primordial dot is the evolutionist’s origin of matter, but where did it come from?  To date, there has been no answer to this question, so it must be believed that it “spontaneously” formed, without any intervention.

The next question that must be answered is what caused this primordial dot to heat up, oscillate, and explode?  Our understanding of science today shows us that a single object, in a vacuum (empty space – no other objects), will not have any force exerted upon it.  It is the force upon an object that causes heat, movement, and a need to occupy greater space (expand).  So, if the primordial dot existed in empty space, as the is taught in this theory, what caused the energy to change this dot’s state, and led to its dissipation?  Currently, science is postulating the idea of multi-universes.  This idea proposes that Multiple Universes exist, and some of them, or all of them, had a primordial dot.  Therefore, according to this theory, each universe had the potential of exerting a force on other universes, and this is what caused the energy necessary for the primordial dot in our universe to energize, oscillate, explode, and change the primordial particles into the elements we find in our universe.  Currently, this has remained a theory, since there is no evidence to support it.

So, what does Creationism teach its followers?  Let me start by admitting that I am biased in this subject matter.  Although I am a student of the sciences, biology, physics, and chemistry, I remain a believer in Creationism.  If you will please allow me to explain why.

As a student of the sciences, I believe in deductive reasoning.  Therefore, when no empirical evidence exists, I will lean toward the theory with the most sequential logic available.  I do not negate the need for faith in acceptance of either belief system, as a matter of fact, Creationism demands it, whereas Evolution attempts to dispel it.

Creationism begins with the existence of an “all-knowing”, “ever-present”, “all-powerful” being, referred to as Godhead.  Additionally, these entities exist as emotional beings who exist as “love”.  This is opposed to the primordial dot, which has neither emotion nor a state of consciousness.

Creationism differs drastically from Evolution as they pertain to the reason life came into existence.  You see, in Creationism, the purpose of the Godhead, Jehovah, is to create and preserve life.  The actions of the primordial dot were to explode and allow life to form without direction or purpose.  Therefore, Creationism caused life and matter to come into existence through purpose and direction, whereas Evolution just came into existence through random chance.

Next, we find a logical order for God’s creation of life, as opposed to that of evolution.  We find through the scriptures that before creation was brought into existence, only the Godhead existed.

Out of a need for love, since the Godhead is love, they decided to come together to create life that could return their love.  Since God is love, He desired that this creation be capable of experiencing the love and beauty that He had created for them.  The Godhead wanted mankind to be conscious of them and the environment that had been created for them, and to have the ability to interact with both nature and its Creators.  But before said conscious life could be created, a place where this life could peacefully reside would have to be created.

On the first day of Creation, the Godhead uncovered nature’s need for an energy source, or sources.  As Jehovah contemplated in the dark, since there was no light, He decided to create the first form of energy needed to sustain life, light.  Once, having decided that this light source would be the best form of energy to initiate life, he commanded nature that light come into existence, and the all-powerful, all-knowing God caused light to come into existence.  He then evaluated what He had created to ensure His creation was in perfect harmony with what would later come into existence.

On the second day of Creation, Jehovah realized that life could not exist as a concentrated connection or collective, as this would remove the objects’ ability to experience diversity.  Creation must be free to occupy its own space to properly exist and interact with the remainder of matter in the universe.  Therefore, on the second day, the LORD Jehovah commanded nature to cause a firmament to come into existence.  This firmament we call pressure.  This pressure immediately caused a separation of the waters, or spaces.  Again, the LORD examined that which He created to ensure that it was in full compliance with the light, and what would be created in the future.

So, on the first day and the second day of creation, our God created the sources of energy that led to our individuality and ability to exist, even before humanity came into existence.  This was done out of love for His creation, before there was even a need for it, confirming that God is all-knowing, all-powerful, and loving.

On the third day of Creation, the Godhead realized that He desired an entity that He could interact with, and this entity would require a place to exist.  So, He commanded that nature cause the waters below the firmament to gather unto one place, and it did so.  This created a space, where before there was water(s), occupying said space.  He then commanded nature to cause dry land to appear, and it was so.  Finally, Jehovah caused the grasses and the fruit trees to come into existence, and it was so.  He then evaluated what he had created to ensure that it was in perfect harmony with the nature that was previously created, and what would be created soon.  The actions of a God of love.

Let us review.  First, there was God, and empty space; this was the existence before “the beginning”.  God commanded that light should exist, and nature obeyed; here we initiate “the beginning”.  Then God commanded a separation between the space (waters) that divided the empty space into two distinct spaces, and again, nature obeyed.  Then God focused on the waters that were beneath the heavens, and He commanded that the waters concentrate into one region, leaving an empty space, and nature obeyed.  Then God commanded that dry land appear, where some of His creation would soon reside, and nature complied.

So, we see a logical sequence of events, from the creation of energy sources that would be required to create additional life, sustain life, and create diversity of life.  This is a consequence of having an all-powerful, all-knowing, loving Creator, as opposed to a non-feeling, non-caring, random manner of evolution.

On the fourth day, the “Almighty” Jehovah, realizing that there existed a need for a place of rest, commanded that two great lights come into existence.  He gave dominion to these lights, one called the Greater light to rule the day, and the other He called the Lesser light to rule the night.  Remember, when God created light on the first day, He separated the day from the night.  He also created the stars and placed them in the heavens.

God then commanded that these lights should be used to define signs, seasons, days, and years.  Therefore, on the fourth day, the LORD created what we know as days, nights, and time.

On the fifth day, the LORD commanded that the water bring forth the creatures that swim in the seas, those that fly in the firmament, and the whales.  He then commanded his swimming creatures, flying creatures, and whales to be fruitful and to multiply, and it was so.  Once again, the “Great I am” examines that which He has created to ensure that it is in perfect harmony with what has been created, and what is yet to be created.

So, on the fifth day, God begins to create a purpose for mankind, to name and care for God’s creatures, even though humanity still did not exist.  This shows the nature of an all-knowing, all-powerful, loving Creator.

On the sixth day, the Creator, the Word, commanded dry land to bring forth the cattle, the creeping things, and the beast of the earth, and it was so.  God then looked back at His creation to ensure that it was in perfect harmony with everything that had been previously created, and with mankind that would soon be created, and he found it all to be good.  He then gave every herb for the cattle, creeping things, and the beasts of the earth to eat, and it was so.

Additionally, the Godhead said, “Let us (plural) make man (mankind) in our (plural) image, after our (plural) likeness.”  This language is evidence for the Godhead, what we believe to be the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  In this sentence, we find the plural form of people, not singular.  We find it three times, so that it leaves no place for doubt.

Mankind was created in the image of God; therefore, it was created in a state of perfection, just as was Lucifer.  It was our choice, and that of Lucifer, to separate

ourselves from the perfect state we existed with God, into a state of enmity with

Him.  Neither angels nor humans were ever created in a state of sin.  Sin is a personal choice, just like sanctification back with God is.

God, after the creation of Adam, followed by the creation of Eve, creates the distinction between man and woman.  He then instructs man and woman to be fruitful and multiply, or to procreate.  This is an actual merger between a man and a woman that we know today as marriage.  Therefore, since God created this marriage institution, and He gave no exceptions, a Bible-based marriage can only exist between a (single) male and a (single) female.  God then gave this married couple the right to engage in sex between themselves, for the purpose of showing love and reproduction.  Since God made no exceptions to this rule, all other forms of sex are outside of marriage and are considered unnatural sex.

Next, God examined all that He had created to ensure that it was in perfect harmony with the rest of creation, and He found it to be perfect.

Finally, on the seventh day, after examining all that He had created —the universe —the Lord, recognizing that His creation required a specific time to be with Him, made a day of rest, a Shabbat.  On this Shabbat, all of Creation would stop its work to focus its attention on its Creator God.  All of nature would recognize that this Jehovah was their Creator and worship Him as such.  Humanity would come together as a collective, as equals, to devote their love and appreciation for all that the Creator has done.  To celebrate the perfect union that existed between God, nature, and humanity.

Since Jehovah created the Sabbath Day, and since He gave no alternatives to it, we, as His children, should honor Him by keeping this Sabbath Holy.  It was given to man to be an eternal day of remembrance and worship of our Creator, Sustainer, and Savior.

Brothers and Sisters, “remember” the Sabbath Day, the Seventh Day of the Week, to keep it Holy.

Remember, we are all sinners; we have all fallen short of the glory of God.  Our Savior does not condemn us. He begs us to repent so that He can forgive us and save us.  Let us ask for a truly repentant state of mind, so we can allow Jesus to overcome sin for us.

God bless and keep you.  Amen.

The Sower and the Seed

Understanding Biblical Truth

The Parable of the Sower and the Seeds

Mark Chapter 4

And he began again to teach by the seaside: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

We just read that Christ began to teach from a ship. His ministry had grown so large that as the people pressed on Him to hear Him, they pushed Him into the sea. Therefore, to combat the overcrowded conditions, He taught from the sea, in the little ship.

And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine,

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Christ taught the crowd many things by parables, and on this day, He shared with them this doctrine.

Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow:

Understanding Biblical Truth:

This parable starts with the notion that there was a sower, or a dispenser of seeds, a farmer, who began to spread his seeds to the ground.

And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

As this farmer spread out his seeds, some seeds fell upon the edge of the road.  Remember, a road is usually a section of compacted ground, where people have walked over, or it has been intentionally prepared, thickened, and packed for the purpose of walking. The seed that landed upon the edge of the road was found by the birds, who then ingested the seed. The soil was so thick that the seeds could not penetrate the dirt. Therefore, it was easy for the birds to find the seeds and completely devour them.

And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Some of the farmer’s seeds fell on stony ground or ground that was void of soil. Almost immediately, these seeds began to germinate because the earth was too shallow, for it lacked sufficient earth.

But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Because these seeds were on stony ground, they were able to burrow themselves into the earth. Unfortunately, the earth’s depth was not sufficient to allow the growth of roots to sustain the plant in its early development, and the hot sun baked the plant, and it died.

And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Now, some of the farmer’s seeds landed on thorny ground. Since thorns had grown there, we know that there existed sufficient earth to allow the seeds to form the root systems they required for growth. Unfortunately, the weeds placed themselves in competition with the farmer’s seeds for the limited resources, particularly water. This competition favored the weeds, being indigenous to the ground where they were already growing. Additionally, it is reasonable to believe that these weeds had the benefit of having started to grow first, and therefore, had another advantage of being further developed than the farmer’s seeds. These advantages for the weeds allowed them to acquire a disproportionate number of resources, particularly water, and therefore, the farmer’s seeds suffered from dehydration and died.

8 And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Now, some of the farmer’s seeds landed on good ground, the ground where the growing conditions were optimal for the development of his seeds. Ground with sufficient soil for the roots to develop, and sufficient water to sustain the plant in the heat of the sun. This allowed the plants to develop until the sun became an actual benefit to the plant, allowing them growth through photosynthesis, rather than being a detriment to them, when the heat boiled and dehydrated the plants. These plants were able to grow and yield thirty, sixty, or a hundred times more seeds than were used to grow the plant.

And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Then Jesus states to those listening, he who has understanding, let them hear, and understand more, or better. At this moment, all in the crowd were listening, so this must mean that Christ had reserved this statement for a particular group of people who were to be found amongst those who were currently listening.

And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Later, after the crowd had dispersed, the people who remained with Christ, and the twelve apostles, inquired of Him the meaning of the parable that He had shared with the crowd.

11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Christ explains to His disciples, the twelve apostles, and the people who remained, “To you is given the blessing of understanding. You will see, hear, learn, and understand the true meaning of God’s kingdom, but to everyone else who has seen and heard this parable, they will not share in the blessing of understanding, for they are without. But exactly, what are they without?

12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Here we discover the meaning of the phrase “that are without”. One could oversimplify the interpretation to merely stand for the group of people who lacked understanding, but this is not an accurate account of Christ’s words. Our Savior, so that His interpretation is not erroneous, goes on to further explain the phrase. He states that there exists something in the people, or around them, or something that they lack, that makes is responsible for their being without. Jesus further defines this condition: though they see with their eyes, they do not see with their minds, and though they hear with their ears, they do not hear with their hearts; therefore, they reject the message. Christ then goes on to say that if at any time these individuals were to accept this message, then they would be converted, and enmity toward sin would be found in their hearts, and their sins would be forgiven. So, what is blocking, or lacking in the person’s brain, that prevents the conversion from one’s experience, through their own senses, to the realization of its existence, reality, in the mind? What establishes this barrier to the transformation from the brain’s senses to the mind’s reality? How can there be a reality in the brain, but not in the mind? We will address this later.

13 And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?

Understanding Biblical Truth:

The Savior then goes on to ask His disciples, the twelve, and those who remained behind. Those who crave spiritual food, or satisfaction of their spiritual needs, over the satisfaction of their hunger, or their physical needs. This establishes the first commandment, that nothing should come before God, not even our most basic needs of life. For this reason, Christ did not turn the stones into bread (Matthew 4:4). Christ then asks His disciples, those who desire truth, don’t you understand this parable? Jehovah then makes the statement, if you do not rid yourselves (the plank in your eye – Matthew 7:5) or acquire for yourselves (the eye salve – Revelation 3:18) those things that block, or those things that remove, the transformation of your senses (brain) to your intellect (mind), then you shall never understand any parable. For this reason, Christ states that we must become like little children (Matthew 18:3), with no preconceived conditions in our minds or hearts, lest they block our understanding of truth. This establishes the difference in existence and function between the brain and the mind.

Now, there was a specific reason why Christ taught the others in parables; they simply were not ready for the truth. If Christ had shared this truth with them, and they, existing in a state of unreadiness, this knowledge would have led to the rejection of truth, and this would have become the road to destruction. They would have been held to a level of understanding, even though they were not prepared for it, and failure would have been imminent. By Christ's teaching in a parable, He showed His love for them, creating a layer of mercy, where they could have time to remove the plank, or obtain the eye salve, and then be ready for acceptance. Otherwise, their defeat would be ensured.

14 The sower soweth the word.

Understanding Biblical Truth

Now Christ elaborates on the meaning of “the seed”. He explains the farmer plants the “word of God” in man’s heart. So, we need to uncover two things: who is the Sower, and what does the seed lead to? What is the grown plant’s equivalent?

15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

Understanding Biblical Truth -

Again, Christ repeats the story and continues to explain its meaning. The seed, or truth, that lands by the side of the road, where the road has been packed, therefore, the condition of the roadside is condensed, impenetrable ground; our hearts are hardened. Ground that nothing can sink or burrow into. This is done for the purpose of walking so that as one steps, they do not sink into the soil and trip. Therefore, this seed has no ability to cover or burrow itself into the soil. Therefore, this plant never germinates or starts the process of root production. These are those people who hear the truth and immediately reject it. Therefore, there is no establishment of plant growth at all, and without growth, plant death quickly ensues. This seed is easy for Satan to find and steal by eating it. Satan is the bird.

16 And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Christ then explains the condition of the stony ground. Remember, the roadside’s condition is so condensed or packed so tightly, that the seed of truth cannot penetrate from the eyes or ears, the senses, into the mind or belief, the soil. In the stony ground, there is some soil above the stones, but insufficient for there to establish adequate root development. This person experiences the seed, or truth, within their senses, and gladly accepts it, within their senses. There is initial cultivation of this seed, and root development initiates.

17 And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Christ then expounds upon the fact that the environment is not conducive to adequate growth. Even though the roots begin to sprout, they are insufficient to sustain the further development of the plant. The seed, the truth, although successfully planted, only has the ability for minimal growth. This plant has the capability to survive, but only for a limited time. The unprepared soil allows for scant growth, and when difficulty develops, the undeveloped plant is incapable of adapting to the changes and quickly dies from malnutrition and dehydration. Satan’s temptations are the scorching sun that causes our truth to wither away.

18 And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Christ explains to his followers, the apostles, and those who remained. Next, we find an environment where optimal growth has the potential to occur. Unfortunately, there existed other plants, weeds that sprang up first, and these weeds were not removed prior to the dispersal of the seeds, insufficient preparation of the soil. As the seed germinates, it must compete with the weeds for the limited resources, minerals, water, and sunlight. Since the weeds have deeper roots and taller leaves, having commenced their growth prior to the germination of our seeds, they have an unfair advantage over our little seed and easily overcome it. The weed absorbs most of the available water since its root system is vast. The weed blocks out the sun since its leaves envelop the tiny leaves of our little seed. Therefore, the weeds choke our seeds to death by depriving them of what is needed for growth.

19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

So, our little seed has some growth; unfortunately, it is limited by the circumstances that the weeds present. As we can see, the weeds can be anything from the lust of the eyes, the deceitfulness of riches, the lust of the flesh, cares and needs of this world, and the pride of life, the lust of other things entering in. These conditions, some preconceived, others we experience as life goes on, choke the truth out of us and lead us to compromise when we are weak.

20 And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Finally, Christ gives the “Good News”. There is a seed that lands on perfectly prepared soil. The soil there are plentiful minerals and water. The soil where the weeds have been removed. The soil where the access to sunlight is perfect. These seeds, where the soil has been prepared for growth, give the seeds their maximum opportunity for growth ,and grow they do. Some seed geminates into a bush that provides thirty times more than was started with, others sixty times, and still others one hundred times.

Conclusion:

Now, this is truly a beautiful story, but what does it mean? Why did Christ share this “Good News” with his followers? Why did those who left fail to understand what Christ was saying? Does God favor man?

We need to understand the following: what is the seed? What is the roadside ground? What is stony ground? What is the weed-filled ground? What is good ground? Lastly, who is the Sower of seeds?

Let us start to answer these questions by turning back to the source, it is written.

Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

This verse clearly states that every person is given a measure of faith. So how does this “faith” have any significance with our seed? The seed is our given faith. When Christ created His children, he placed in them an innate need to search for that which is greater than Himself. This desire causes man to seek knowledge and truth; unfortunately, knowledge does not always equate to truth, and often man’s journey has been derailed by the search for knowledge, rather than the search for truth. So, this innate desire is the seed. God gave everyone this seed.

So, what is the ground? The ground is what we do, and how we prepare to cultivate our seed. The ground is our hearts and minds. When our hearts are so packed with deception that no level of truth can penetrate, there can be no growth for our little seed. Then Satan comes to destroy our little seed, or faith, creating in us disbelief. This often leads to the rejection of God’s word or atheism.

When our faith lands upon a heart in stony ground, there is some level of soil, so initially, there is growth, as when we are born again in our nature. Unfortunately, we do not prepare our soil by removing the stones, and the things that plagued us, and separated us from God, before our rebirth, return, and do the same again. We return to the way we were before. Let us see what “it is written” has to say.

Matthew 12:43-45

When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.

44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.

45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

Here Christ explains the cause-and-effect relationship of having our faith cast upon stony ground. First, He explains that the unclean spirit leaves the man. The man is free to think, to search, and to accept. The man searches for rest but finds none. So, what the man was searching for was rest, but finds none, truth. Most likely, this man searched in that which he knew, knowledge, and since that was inadequate before, it remained inadequate. Therefore, the man lost hope and returned to his house, or the way his heart condition was before his rebirth. The man became bitter against all that is God, and now evil has increased in his heart against God, and we find him seven times worse than before. His enmity against Jehovah has increased seven times. This man failed to search for truth, the word of God; rather, he searched for knowledge, the word of men. This knowledge, along with Satan’s works, led this man back to where he began, confused, angry, and alone. If only this man had searched elsewhere. Today, many professed Christians are willing to accept the “word of men” without confirming these words to the “word of God”; therefore, we are witnessing the same pattern, and these unfortunate souls will eventually find their knowledge lacking truth. This will lead many to despise our Creator, and they will choose to believe in alternative knowledge, evolution, atheism, and apostate Protestantism.

Again, we find our seed land upon the soil that has been improperly prepared. Yes, we removed the stones, but we failed to destroy the weeds. Our weed-filled soil, although sufficient in minerals and water, has a problem: it has weeds. The weeds create competition for the available resources, water, and minerals. This is like when we accept the truth, but we lose our first love, our desire to know more, and our drive for growth through truth.

Revelation 2:2-4

I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:

And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.

Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Here, our Savior recognizes the achievements of the early church. He commends their works, their knowledge of the truth, their recognition of error, and their implementation of learned behaviors for Christ. Unfortunately, Christ also condemns them for the one thing that may eventually cause them to depart from the truth, which is their first love. The church is of the impression that it knows enough, it does enough, and it behaves well enough. These ideals potentially lead the church to a pagan doctrine, righteousness by works. The church, because of its belief that it was good enough, lost its desire to learn more or continue its growth in truth and its dependence upon God.

The weeds suffocate our desire to have our characters mimic those of our Savior. We begin to believe, as the early church did, that we are good enough. We forget the description of salvation that Christ gave us in His sermon on the Mount.

Matthew 5:3

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

When mankind, or even the church, becomes aware of its inadequacy, then and only then can its heart soften to examine the truth and accept it. If ever they believe themselves to be full or acceptable, they lose this special blessing that leads to the knowledge of their sins and the enmity in them. This enmity torwards sin leads to true AGAPE with Christ, toward God the Father.

Finally, some of our seeds fall upon good ground. This is ground that has been adequately prepared to receive the seed. It is when we remove “everything” from our hearts and minds that it can become a barrier between the seed, truth, and our spiritual growth, the plant. Only then can the seed, truth, that the Sower, our Christ, has planted, continue to grow. It can only continue to grow when we have complete dependence upon the Son of God. If ever we depend upon ourselves, we return to our empty home, and acquire the seven devils, and find ourselves seven times worse than before.

So let us review

Christ is the Sower of seeds. He implants in every man a measure of faith. A longing to, and desire, to meet his creator. Our hearts are the soil, and they can only germinate the seed to the level of our willingness to prepare our soil by removing the barriers between the Holy Spirit and our minds. Christ provides the rain, minerals, and the sun, all that is needed for the plant, or our faith, to grow. If we depend upon ourselves, we will never obtain an adequate amount of water, minerals, and sun for us to grow, and we will die. Our growth requires complete dependence upon our Father in heaven. We only need to get out of the way as He, through the Holy Spirit, removes the obstacles. If we do not interfere in this process, God will always be successful.

Let us answer the last question: Does God favor men?

Romans 2:11 - For there is no respect of persons with God.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Because there is no favor of men, we are all equals in God’s eyes, and in His church. There is no hierarchy, and therefore, we come together as one. If there were favoritism, it would go against the very character that is God’s, God is Love. Therefore, let us rejoice, for the greater the sin, the greater God’s grace. We can come boldly to His throne of Grace and find His love for us.

Amen.

The Faith of the Remnant Church

                                                   James Chapter 2

The Church and Its Faith

My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Here, the Apostle James addresses the church.  He tells the members of the body that we are not to base “the faith” with respect to persons.  He refers to "the faith” as the “faith of our Lord Jesus Christ”.  What James is saying is that our faith, as a church, and as individuals of the body, must mimic the faith that Christ displayed while He was here on earth as our example, and that “the faith” should never be tainted by the opinions or ideals of man.  Scripture must interpret scripture, sola Scriptura.

Why is this significant?  Who was James to make such a declaration?  Does the rejection of this counsel have consequences, and if so, what might they be?

The Apostle James was not only one of the church brethren, but he was also the actual brother of Jesus Christ.  Christian historians point to James as the leader of the early church.  What was his role as the leader of Christ’s church?  How does his role differ from the roles of other religious leaders?  Does it make a difference in the way people worship God?

Webster’s Definition:

A. Leader

1.     Person - is who has authority or influence

2.     Person who leads, conducts.

B.  Pope -

1. A prelate who, as bishop of Rome, is the head of the Roman Catholic (Universal) Church

2.    one that resembles a pope (as in authority)

As we can see from these definitions, both leaders and popes have inherent authority, and both can influence and direct.  So, what, if any, is the difference between these two forms of leadership?  What is the manner and limitation of their authority?  Does choosing one form over the other cause a diversion from “the faith of Jesus Christ”?  If so, is that deviation of spiritual importance?

The faith of Jesus Christ is best explained by the following verse:

Colossians 1:18 - And he (Jesus) is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence

Here we clearly see that Jesus is the head of His church.   This verse also states that He is the beginning, or cornerstone, and the One upon whom the entire church is based.  It then goes on to ensure that no one can mistake who this verse is referring to by calling Him, “the firstborn of the dead”, referring to Christ’s resurrection.  Lastly, this text states that everyone in the body understands His superiority

So, let us strictly scrutinize the definitions above and discover which form of leadership identifies the true leader of Christ’s church.  First, we have Pope.  The definitions above state that the Pope has the authority “that resembles the Pope”; should not the Pope resemble his God?  So, what type of authority does the leader of the Church of Rome possess, and from where is this authority derived?

The Papal Infallibility Doctrine - in Roman Catholic theology, the doctrine that the pope, acting as the supreme teacher (Rabbi & Master) and under certain conditions, cannot err when he teaches in matters of faith or morals.  It is believed that Christ gave this promise to Peter, who they believe to be the first Pope, and that all subsequent Popes are derived from his (Peter’s) succession.  This doctrine is like the Divine Right of Kings Doctrine.  This form of leadership creates a master and servant relationship and is obtained through inheritance.

Mathew 23:8 - But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.

The Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, 1951 printing, page 50. - We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church, in the Council of Laodicea (AD 336), transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday....

Therefore, from these two doctrines, we find that the definition of Pope infers supreme authority of a man over Christ’s Church, and the power for such authority is derived from the church.  In both aspects, Christ is robbed of His rightful place as Head of His Church and sole authority over it.

Now, let us give strict scrutiny to the definition of Leader.  Let us examine if there are any similarities or differences between the words leader and pope.

As we see, the word leader refers to a person who has the authority or influence over those in the body of Christ.  On the surface, it would seem to be equal to that of the pope, but in this case, the right to lead is granted from God and accepted through the laity.  There is no right of succession or creation of a hierarchy, for all in the church are equals.

For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Here, Paul describes two different men; the first is adorned with lavish and beautiful things, the second has nothing but the rags he wears to cover his nakedness.  Remember, the purpose of this story is not the two men, but rather how the laity reacts to what they see.

And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Here, the church members, being enticed by the adornments of the wealthy man, favor him and place him in a location of honor, whereas they loathe the poor man and place him in the location of shame, out of the eyes of others.  Is not being enticed like being tempted through the lust of the eyes?  Is not loathing your brother the same as hating him?

Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Here, James shows us the consequences of respecting man.  Here, respecting man leads to favoritism and a biased nature.  This bias in the Church’s nature will eventually lead to the creation of criteria for entering Christ’s fold; this then transforms God’s Church into a club, for clubs have criteria for their members.

Christ never gave any instructions for a person to join His church, only that they allow His Holy Spirit to make the necessary changes in them so that they will choose to remain in it.

Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Again, James reminds his spiritual family that it was Christ Himself who chose the poor to be the heirs of His kingdom.  Therefore, all in God’s flock must be poor, giving up everything, and placing Christ in His rightful place, first.  To place Christ anywhere but first is to reject Him and to commit blasphemy.  It also causes the transformation of God’s precepts and creates a new religion.

In the Roman Church, Christ is NOT first; before He comes, the Pope, Mary, the Saints, and even religious relics.

Mathew 5:3 & 5 - Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

An individual who is "poor in spirit" comes before God without preconceived ideals. This means that this person can accept new ideas because he or she is aware that they are deficient in their existence. It is this understanding that helps the Holy Spirit work in them to help them gain understanding and acceptance of GOD's word.

Mathew 10:37 - He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

This verse is a restatement of GOD's first and second commandments.  He reminds us that nothing, not even our beloved family, should come before our relationship with GOD. To do so is to sin by removing Jehovah from His rightful place and placing someone or something else in  His place.

But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

Understanding Biblical Truth

By despising the poor, we despise those who Christ chose to be his heirs, and we favor those who would destroy us.  Remember, this is speaking of the attitude or spirit of being poor, not the actual financial status of being poor or rich.  The attitude of the rich is to conquer, for the rich are never satisfied with their wealth.  So, when we favor the rich over the poor, we favor them over ourselves, to be like them, to think like them, to accept the riches of Egypt for a season, by denying the blessing of God for eternity.  We reject what Christ wants for us.

Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?

Understanding Biblical Truth:

When a church, or its members, call themselves by the name of our Savior, Christians, and they act in a manner contrary to how their Master would act, they give a false interpretation of the One that they follow.  This deceptive presentation is blasphemy against God and is an intentional act against the third commandment.

If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Here, James states, that if the members fulfill the royal law, according to scripture, and not according to the interpretations of man, they do well.  This infers the opposite: if mankind attempts to fulfill the royal law through the interpretations of man, they fail.  The precepts of the royal law are to love your neighbor.  If we love our neighbor, we will not covet that which they possess.  If we love our neighbors, we will not steal from them.  If we love our neighbors, we will not bear false witness against them.  If we love our neighbors, we will not desire to kill them.  If we love our neighbor, we will thank God for them.

But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Here, it is made clear that if we have respect for persons, we commit sin.  How is this possible?  Well, we must return to the royal law.  The first commandment is “not to place anything or anyone before God”.  When we are respecters of persons, we place that person before God, and in a sense, make that person our god, breaking the first and the second commandments.

10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Here, James states that if we break one commandment, we break them all.  How is this possible?  To understand this principle, we must become aware of the basic precept for the ten commandments, that God is Love.  If God is Love, then all things pertaining to God are also Love.  This would, of course, include all ten of his commandments and statutes.  Therefore, to break any of God’s commandments or statutes is to find yourself outside the confines of Love.  Deviation from any of God’s ways is the complete rejection of His Son, and therefore of the Father.

14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Here, James poses an intriguing question: can faith alone save a man?  He inquires of the brethren the value of faith, without the actions of works.  As a Bible-based Christian, I know that I cannot be saved by my works, but can a lack of works be my condemnation?  Do my works manifest something within me?

15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

Understanding Biblical Truth:

If I truly am a Christian, then I mimic my Christ.  Before Christ spread the spiritual word, he cared for the people’s physical needs.  He then instructs us to follow His lead.

Mathew 25:35 - For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

Understanding Biblical Truth:

James poses the question: if your brother is in physical need, and you recognize this need, and refuse to fulfill it, what does it profit the one in need?  The verbal blessing will not satisfy the physical needs, and it does not mimic the actions of Christ, who went the extra mile to make sure that both physical and spiritual needs were met.

17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Here we have been instructed that faith, without works, is without value.  It satisfies neither the body nor the spiritual needs.  In fact, James calls this relationship dead.

18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Here, James is showing the brethren the futile nature of attempting to show one’s faith without works.  Works are the outward manifestations that a person has faith in.  They are what show those around the actions of love that faith creates.

19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Here, James confronts the non-biblical teaching of salvation through belief.  He explains to the brethren that although their belief that God is one, the Schema, is true, the same belief is shared by the enemy of God, and it causes them to tremble.  Therefore, belief in God, of itself, is not salvation through faith.  Faith is partaking in the spirit of the Commandments, God is Love, and those who follow Him mimic Him in love.

20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Here, a question is proposed to the vain man: Will you not realize that faith without works is dead?  The vain man is the most insecure.  He creates his vanity as a means to protect his fragile ego from the truth.  Eventually, he begins to believe his own lies about himself.  This personification is without value or useless.

21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Did not the offering of Isaac, his only son, as a sacrifice prove the faith of Abraham?  Did it not show Abraham’s trust in God to keep His word?

22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Seeing how faith, manufactured with his works, made the works perfect.  It satisfied the required sacrifice, the promise of Abraham, and fulfilled the spiritual needs.  Abraham’s faith knew that God would not deprive him of what he promised that he would be the father of many nations.

Genesis 22:8 - And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Abraham’s belief in God leads to the work or action, the outward manifestations, that prove his faith.  Without the works, only God would know if faith actually existed in Abraham’s mind.  For the brethren to realize faith, there must be works, for only God can read the heart.  This trust between Abraham and God created a relationship, and before Abraham was merely a servant of God, but because of this relationship, he became a friend of God, and later a child of God.  The desire to do what is right is a natural tendency for those who love and serve the Lord.

24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

James is explaining that a man’s intentions can only be represented by his actions.  Only God can read the thoughts in our minds, so only God would know if a person’s faith were real or not.  The inward thought is of no value to us since we lack this power.  Therefore, we can only judge faith by the works, and trust that God will know the truth.

25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?

Understanding Biblical Truth:

Here, James gives the second account of faith since the Law requires two witnesses.  Rahab’s work or action, of preserving the men of Israel, justified her faith that the God of Israel would preserve her and her family.  Had she not saved them, not only would the men of Israel die, but she and her family would have been decimated.

26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Understanding Biblical Truth:

James goes on to explain that just as the body without the pneuma is dead, so faith without works is also dead.  A person who believes without works, that faith is dead.

Conclusion:

So, what is the faith of God’s Church?  Does the definition of its Leader influence the faith of the said church?  Does it influence the manner of worship within the church?

As we have experienced above, faith is not a mere principle of belief; rather, faith is a lifestyle.  To have the requisite belief, without experiencing the consequences or blessings of the belief, is not to have the belief at all.  A Christian should attain joy and contentment when his works reflect his faith, and this should encourage him or her to want to do more works.  So, when a person refuses the works or does not benefit from the works, then he or she must ascertain if their faith is real.

As Christians, we must desire to mimic our Christ.  We just want to act, speak, and follow all that He did, for we know that His way is perfect.  If we do not have this passion in our hearts, we must reevaluate our commitment to Him and our faith in Him.

Pope's definition of a leader has definite differences.  A Pope is a man who is believed to be the “head” of God’s Church.  It is the Pope’s authority that is Supreme over the Laity.  It creates a master and servant relationship between the Church and the laity.  The Pope is believed to be higher than the word of God, the Bible.  The Pope derives its powers and authority from the Church.

Neither James nor Peter was Pope.  James, the brother of Jesus Christ, was the leader of the early church.  It was Christ who is, was, and always will be the only “head” of His church, for only God can hold this place.  No man has the right to usurp Christ from his role.  If Christ is the Head, then all men are equal in God’s kingdom.  Therefore, there can be found no separation between the Church ministers and the Laity, for all are ministers to God, all are the Body.  By having a man sit on the throne of Christ, it alters the religion that God gave to man and creates a pagan state in its place.

Let us return to the biblical precepts of God, and let Jesus be all things to all men.  Amen.
